i purchased a 2003 F350 DRW and for some reason my headlights are always on. is there a thing from the factory that ford did to always have them or is it something that the previous owner did. If so does anyone know of a way to get this things to only turn on when they are needed
if it has daytime running lights, or even an aftermarket version I wouldn't try to get rid of them it gives you a discount on your insurance if they know about it. that being said. look at your insurance policy. usually it will list all the safety features based off the vin. if it came with daytime running lights it should be there.
i dont mind them being on but when using my remote start i hate that they come on. Is there a way of taking them off insurance will never know about it if they come off.
don't know the set up for the running lights on these trucks but my wifes camry has a fuse that works just the relay for the running lights. pull the fuse and the lights still work like normal. again may not be able to do that with your truck but its worth a look.
one other thing you could try. most vehicles with daytime running lights won't turn on the lights if the e-brake is engaged when you turn it on. try that at least that way you would still have the safety feature and you can just set the e brake when you park it at night and the lights won't come on when you use the remote starter
yea i usally park with it with the e brake on but this weekend was a little to cold in WV for me to try it. my explorers e brake has frozen on me so didnt want to take a chance
I know that feeling I'm in NY and every morning for the last two weeks when I start moving you can hear the tires and brakes break loose from all the ice. I won't use my e brake over night just park level and leave the shifter in the opposite gear from the possible roll.
My guess, if Canadian built it would also be supplied with the block heater (gas engine), and Speedo in Kilometers. The "dayrunners" (daytime running lights) typically run at decreased intensity (not sure on the SD's) and should shut-off with the e-brake.
block heater it does have speedo is in miles not kilo.
Interesting on the gauge in miles if it's a Canadian truck. I wouldn't sweat the DRL being on when you start with remote. I've had this for years and it doesn't affect anything as far as starting with remote. It's never been an issue for me and I'll bet it gets colder here than where you are.
It's possible it could have been built with state or commercial vehicle options. (ambulance/rescue/DPW/fleet etc..) Break down the VIN and see what you come up with.
