Axle life
I'm in the market for some 4x4 axles for my truck, and it got me thinking; how long do axles usually last? I mean I have the stock one in my '67 and it works perfectly, but my brother's '69 Bronco recently sheered off part of the gearing in the differential.
If it's not driven hard and really pushed, does milage even make a dent into the life of a differential?

well i have a chevy that made 250. thousand before spider gears started to howl. truck received no mercy from me. my 5.0 mustang went went 160.tho before wheel seals leaked and posi quit the po dragged it for years. found that out after buying it lol..

Wear items like axle end bearings and seals are commonly replaced on occasion. But even those have really good service lives. The ring and pinion gears, internal differential parts, and the axle shafts themselves could last nearly forever unless subjected to shock stresses, like in drag racing or high horsepower applications. Like most things, reliability has more to do with "care and feeding" than time or mileage. There's a lot of old axles still working fine, and those would be parts made from old tech metallurgy, too.
