I have a 73 F100 with 302 all stock everything. In the future I woud like to upgrade it slightly. Question is will the stock 2 barrel support aftermarket high compression pistons and a towing/rv cam? I would like a little extra "kick" but keep the two barrel carb if possible. If not then I probably just won't do anything to it, other than just rebuilt the engine back to stock at some point. Thanks.
If you will not be increasing the RPM range that you are driving at by a large degree, then the present carb should be fine.
Increasing the compression ratio does not increase the airflow requirements significantly. Changing the camshaft might, depending on its specifications. But a towing/RV cam usually doesn't mean high rpm usage.
How much of the time do you spend over 4000 rpm? If the answer is "not much", then the stock carb should be fine.
I had a car some time ago with a stock 1969 351W-2V with a tach. I once had it up to 4500 rpm, and it seemed way too high. That engine was fairly high compression and a good cam for a stock engine, had a Holley 350cfm carb and didn't seem to run out of carb at that rpm.
Retaining the small carb improves low rpm performance. There's not much point putting on a big carb that is superior over 4000(say), but worse under it, if one's driving is almost always below 4000.
