I put Rancho RSX shocks on mine. They give an awesome ride without any harshness at all. Price was right too, inasmuch as they were on sale a couple months ago (still might be) for around $38/ea at Summit Racing.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 29-Jun-02 AT 10:57 PM (EST)]I have Edelbrock IAS shocks on mine and cant complian yet, (except about the $70.00 each pricetag)
But I beleive in the "Buy it once, and forget it" philophosophy
If you find a steering stabilizer for it, let me know, I am still looking for one
I have a 4X4 so I dont know much about the 2WD's I assume that Edelbrock has them for it as well.
I really liked the Edlebrock IAS shock replacement on my '97 (especially when compared to the OEM shocks which were completely shot after 35K miles). However, I feel I am the victim of short life (failure) of the Edlebrocks which was reported on early postings here.
I'm getting way too much bounce after 18 months and only 12K miles.
Of course they have a lifetime warranty. I just have to contact them and see how to go about replacement (no local dealer - I bought over the net and had installed locally).
I might suggest you try Monroe Sens-a-trac if you want to go modest price (about $35-$40 at auto parts shops) or Bilsteins's at about the price of Edlebrock's. Good luck to you. ROY
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 26-Jul-02 AT 04:33 PM (EST)]Been there, done that with the replacement of the Edelbrock shocks. Within 6 months or less, I had 3 of the 6 shocks on my Bronco replaced under warranty, 1 leaking badly, and 2 for being stuck at full extension.
What you have to do is either purchase new shocks from them, and then send the old ones back and they credit you the amount, or you take off your bad shocks, send them in, and they send you new ones (2-3 week process). They only pay for shipping one way, but if you gripe enough, they will send pickup tickets for the other half of the shipping as well.
