The old bench seat in my `75 is getting worn out, I would really like bucket seats, but I ruled that out because I just bought a whole new floor mat and it doesnt cover under the seat. I read on another post that Ford used the same mounting holes for bench seats through the `80s. Is this true and which will fit, so I can look for one?
I have a 90 XLT Lariat seat in my 68,so i'm pretty sure all the way to 96 should bolt up providing you switch the seat rails out. May have to drill out the mounting holes on the later seat so bolts will go through but that is all. Mine looks great I had it recovered to match trucks trim. Can send a pic if you would like to see.
My friend had a bench seat out of a 90 or so ford truck in his 75. He didn't have to swap rails. They must be the same for the 73 to 79 fords, too.
We ended up putting the seat back into a 85 without any problems. I do think that if you were to put it into a 67-72 you would have to swap out the rails though.
You may be right, I have not tried this in a 73-79 but my dad has a 73 now and I may put a later model in his, so maybe it will be a little easier (not to say it was hard in the 68, it wasn't).Always learning, guess I ain't too old to be taught ha ha ha
Why not look into having the seat you have rehabilatated at a upholstery shop. They can repair broken springs, replace foam rubber, and put darn near any material onto your bench seat. I've seen some real nice work (like factory new) from a couple of shops I've looked into. I've gotten a couple of quotes for around $500 for a nice all cloth (velour) job. I keep haveing other things come up that have prevented me from doing this although I will eventually.

Dont you think that I could find a seat at a junkyard for pretty cheap? $500 is too much for me. even $100 is too much. wouldnt one of the newer seats be more comfortable? Taz, I would like to see a picture of what you got. Email me dave186 at earthlink.net
I just put in two bucket seats from a Ranger Supercab in my 78 F-150. Finally I can ride in comfort. Total cost was $50, $40 for the seats, and $10 for the wood and bolts. Very comfortable, I am quite pleased. I am going to put a middle bucket that folds down to a drink table from a Oldsmobile minivan.
