I have an 06 Escape and everyonce in a while for reasons unknown to me, the battery dies. I could've driven it 6 hours prior and it dies. In November I had to boost it about 7 times!! Not to mention attaching a battery charger every night. It hasn't done it recently but I feel like I never know when my truck will or won't start. I was just wondering if there could be some sort of a parasitic draw on it or if I just have a crumby battery. Any thoughts???
You need a DC clamp meter that has a min/max function with a fresh battery in it to measure the current being drawn from the battery. It will record the highest/lowest value. If you catch something, then you start pulling fuses to isolate the drain. Since many fuses power several things, you'd then have to get into the wiring.
Do you think it would do any harm if it waited??? I'm being deployed for two months next weekend, should I get it checked before or after I go?
I'd wait until you get back to replace the battery unless you have time to tear into it and find the problem. If there is something drawing it down, you'll come back to find your new battery completely dead. You could also disconnect the battery before you go.
