I have a 1970 F-100 with an all-stick 302 V8 in it and I was wondering how long it would take to rebuild the carbourator. I have opened it up a few times to fix things such as the float and a pump off to the side and am familiar with it (in other words, I can take it apart and get it back together with n problem). Isn't there some solution that it can be put in for awhile that will remove the varnish and deposits on the inside? How long would the parts need to sit in it, and how much should I expect to spend (total)?
I assume you have a motocraft 2100 2v. There is more to "rebuilding" or "restoring" a carb then just replacing the needle and seat. Having said that, however, I would also say many carbs simply need to be thoroughly cleaned and "serviced" with a kit. Kits are about $15-20. Good carb cleaner cost about $40 per gallon. I like a product called "Thyme" It works very well at removing tarnish and varnish from old gas, etc. I usually soak mine overnight.
