Howdy, New Ranger Owner
I've been hanging out on the Pre-Powerstroke list for a couple years but I just bought a 2000 Ranger so now you all will have to put up with me as well.
Brought the truck home today. Tomorrow I start the maintenance schedule that I can live with. New plugs, wires, air filter, oil and oil filter, fuel filter. A good check over to find the crap left behind by the PO's "Mechanic".
It basically looks like a good truck, but the wear on the plug wires, etc. is pretty obvious so I'm guessing that it will run much better in the near future.
Anyway, my condolences to you all for my future involvement.

Best
Ron
Be sure to update your signature with your (new to you) rides particulars, as that info can help in the quality of the replies you get.
Good idea to go through it & bring it up to date on past & present due scheduled maintenance, so be sure to look through the "Tech Info" thread atop this forums thread listing page, as it has links to all sorts of helpful info about service & repairs on our Rangers, so we likely won't have to wait for answers to most questions, or problems we may have.
On the plugs & wires, you'll likely have the best service using the specified Motorcraft, or Autolite fine wire double platinum plugs & plug wire products, as they are designed for service in our Rangers "waste spark" ignition system, which works them twice as hard as the old distributor ignition system.
Don't forget the Tranny, P/S, Brake & Cooling system fluids, as some of them like the brake & p/s fluids are aften ignored or forgotten, or not even on Fords scheduled maintenance list for replacement back then, but need scheduled changes too!!!!
Fords Dot-3 brake fluid is some of the best available & a good value, at a good price too!!!!
Same for their engine & tranny fluids in Rangers.
If you choose another brand, make sure it says on the container that it meets, or exeeds Fords specificatios for that fluid, or part.
Some thoughts for consideration, enjoy your new Ranger ride, I sure like mine!!!!
Done, pretty much. After I get back to work more regular I will update my membership and expand some.
Yup, been there and will be spending more time there. I can tell there's lots of good solutions to problems that I haven't seen yet.
This will be new to me, looks like an interesting read.
Same is true for everybody that I know that owns one. I drive a 2WD version at work. The only drawbacks are directly related to not being 4WD. Other than that, it starts and runs every day and does everything that we ask it to do.
