I'm not sure if anyone has had this problem with their Super Duty, but I seem to have a fuel leak at the top of my gas tank. It only leaks when I top off the tank. Not sure if there is a gasket that seals the tank or what. Thanks for any input.
No. I was able to top off the tank back in the summer and the tank reading on the console was around 330-350 miles till empty when it wasn't leaking. Now it leaks at the tank and the reading is down to 260-290 till empty. I didn't think it would leak at the tank as an overfill.
So you need to find where it's leaking. Could be the hose clamped fill or vent lines, could be the big bung nut, could be the supply or return lines. Could even be a air vent tube cracked or pulled off. You might be able to figure it out and fix it by reaching up in there, but probably not. Easiest is probably to lift the bed off and inspect the top side of the tank. You can drop the tank instead, but it will be easier to identify a leak if you have not disturbed the lines in the process of dropping it.
Wow. Thanks for that pic. Here's a question. Is that a rubber type grommet that the front air vent is connected to? There is a tube hanging from above the tank that has a plastic end coming out of it. That may be the culprit.

All the fittings into the tank are glued in place and cannot be regasketed. The only removeable item is the big nut where the sending/pickup unit is installed.
I think what you are asking about is a TEE fitting in the air vent. I believe the little stub that sticks up is a check valve that is supposed to let air in, but not let fuel out. But I'm not certain on that. It's probably not very expensive to replace. BTW, there is another one just like it on the other end of the tank that isn't shown in that picture.
Just remember that this is a diesel tank, and you cannot make that modification to a gasser. But the tank itself is the same thing. The plumbing may be a little different because you have a charcoal vapor system.
