2000 F250 4x4 Crewcab V10. Trucks runs great and then acts as if it died. It still runs, but no power and the check engine light comes on. The check engine light sometimes flickers and then make a clicking sound. Turn truck off after 10, 15 minutes...Check engine is off and truck starts and runs fine for awhile. Also noticed that you can not turn the over drive on or off at the time the check engine light and problem exists. Saw other threads regardinding a fuel pump issue but nothing specific to our problem.
I am getting to borrow a code reader tomarrow. I have talked to many Ford truck friends. They all own diesels. They (as in everyone I talked to-5 of them) all seem to think that it is a cam sensor. They have all had to change them out at least once. They all have taken them to a dealer for work. My question is how hard to replace and how exspensive? What is this great piece of equipment and why is everyone I talk to having to replace it. This sounds like a great idea...similar to the COP (coil over plug) design. HELP...thank you.
It is almost certainly NOT a cam sensor. The friends of yours probably all have 7.3 diesels, and the cam sensor is a know/common problem with them. The v10 does have one, but is vvery rare to have a problem with it. Being that you mentioned the overdrive on/off not working, I would venture to guess that you might a a trans code, and the pcm is sending the truck into "limp" mode to preserve the drivetrain. Scan the code and let us know what it/they are.
