mwfi injectors - Dave S

need to replace the injectors and was going to buy a set from mwfi.....2 questions:
do you trust them enough to not test them before install (i can only find 2 shops near me, both want around $10/injector and 7-10 days)
2. i have no history on the ip (appears to have been replaced at least once)...ballpark, how soon will the new injectors tax the pump to the point it needs to go too

I have not read one bad report on MWFI products.

As far as testing before you install them, many people do just that, I have done it that way myself.

IP's and injectors are wear items.
If you want the best MPG and power, they should both be replaced at 100,000 miles.
However I know I can find several trucks close to me that have over 300K on the IP and injectors.
They wear and drop of power and economy so slowly, you don't notice the difference, so you don't think about it until one or the other gets real bad.

As far as how long the IP will last with new injectors, that really depends on the IP condition and would just be a guess if I put a number out there.

I have seen new injectors kill an IP in 1000 miles, then again I have seen them run for 100,000 without problems.

I had about 330K miles [original] on the injectors and about 220k on the IP before replacing. It sure has made a difference but did I need to do it? It still ran alright and if I didn't have the FRN's to do it then so be it, it still ran. Increased economy and mileage will absorb the cost given the miles I put on so no regret spending the money. I wasn't aware of testing the injectors, figured they were ready to out of the box. Now I wonder?

FWIW, I called these guys to learn about their injectors and they ensured me all of them are tested at their facility to deliver a superior product.

Oregon Fuel Injection, diesel injector pump, injector, Powerstroke injectors, turbo and turbo parts for Ford Diesel pickups 6.9 l, 7.3 L, 6.0 L & 6.4 L

For some reason they have '85, '86 and '87 listed under
7.3 L IDI Ford ( B, BB, C or D code )
.

that was what I wanted to know....3 of the injectors appear to have been replaced (5 have blue/grey painted aurfaces), and the ip appears to have been done at some point as well. It has a noticable miss, and at least two questionable injectors (1 original, 1 replacement)...figure if I do a whole set at least they will be closer to matched and I will have known history.

will start putting pennies in a jar to deal with the IP at some point....what are the signs of it quitting (or getting ready to quit)

Loss off fuelmilage and loss of power are indicators of wear but this is very decieving because it occurs over a very long period starting when new and is not readily noticable.
As far as signs of quitting the ones that I have had quit just quit with no notice except for my first one it still ran good but was getting diesel in my oil. This was on an 85 and I was told that this problem was eliminated and could not happen again. after owning several of these rigs it has never occured again except for the fuel pump going bad.
