Please help...warn hubs

I just installed warn hubs on my '01 f250 7.3. My four wheel drive was not working the other day and i was getting a bad vibration in the front left. I took the front left locking hub off and it was torn up internally. Now, I am having an issue.

The instructions say to do a test to make sure they are functioning properly. It says to lift one tire off the ground and lock both hubs. Spin the lifted wheel and the driveline should turn. This works fine.
Then it says unlock the lifted wheel and spin the tire and the driveline should not turn. This does not work. The driveshaft spins no matter what combination I have the hubs locked or unlocked.
The shift on the fly 4wd has never worked but i plugged the vac lines anyway.
If I drive it like this doesn't that mean its pretty much in 4wd the whole time? Someone please help
Also, they look kind of silly recessed into the lug nut cover. Did I put them on wrong?

so with one wheel lifted and the switch in 2wd on the dash, the drive line still turns. did you try to hold the drive shaft while rotating the wheel to see if it was really locked in?

1- they are suppose to sit closer than the factory ones
2- even if you lock them in and jack one tire in the air the tire will still turn because there isnt a locker in the front diff so it turns the front driveshaft instead
3- your needle bearing is probally shot, i would pull the unit bearing and check asap before you destroy your stub shaft
4- all the info can be found here by doing a search its very easy to do so save the money and do it yourself
hope this helps you out

Thanks guys. I ended up jacking the whole truck up and everything seems to work fine.
Superduty- what makes you think the needle bearing is shot. I'm not questioning your knowledge I just don't know much about it. Do I have to take the whole hub assembly off to check the needle bearing?

you said you had a vibration right and that the hub was torn up so going from past problems that is usually the main problem
