I was curious what winter projects other forum members are doing? I have three going on right now...
1. 1992 Bronco - needs motor/trans/transfer case and interior finished...
2. 1986 F-150 cab mated to 1989 Bronco frame... picked up a Dana 44 straight axle for it, will be doing 4" suspension lift, custom flatbed, 460 swap... +
3. 1985 Bronco - finish up interior, fix bothersome glitches, rewire back window motor, finish crappy panel alignment done by po, replace hood and cowl piece, get it ready for paint...
- Rebuild carburetor (just gotta reassemble it)
- Replace valve cover gaskets
- Get it inspected, tagged and insured
- Replace all the front end rubber parts with new rubber or polyurethane parts
- Oil change
I just recently changed the plugs and plug wires, and that alone improved the way it runs by 100%. It was running horrible before, and now it will warm itself up without me even touching the pedal (without a choke!) and it runs as smooth as a new truck. Once I get the rebuilt carb on it and tuned, then it should be ready to go!
Fortunate that in south Mississippi we don't have a true "winter" like alot of folks do, but I also need to replace the cowl panel (have the new part in my shed) and then at the same time get my body panels lined up, start taking out the minor dents/door dings, replace the windshield, and get it painted. My seat is going to need to be recovered in blue cloth vs the beige that it has now. Lastly, for peace of mind will be replacing all the front brake components including rotors, calipers, pads, and wheel bearings.
Looking to sand/grind off some surface rust and primer my girl, get her prepped for a spay can job when the weather warms up. Also need to get my T-18 in my F100 and install a manifold back exhaust system, not sure if I want to get a cat for her or not...
Hope finish this up and have it ready for paint when it warms up a little.
Then my big compressor needs a rebuild, backhoe attachment needs work, and the loader needs serviced to start the new season of work. Oh yea I need to clean my shop too.
1952 Ford F-1 gasser, 1925 T bucket roadster, the wife's 67 Mustang, a 65 Falcon Ranchero, and now this freebie 86 F-150! Lots of projects and I know it is a sickness!
Its a 1989 F250 Custom 4X4. Its really a F350 de-rated to a heavy duty F250. Its got the 3" shoes and drums and longer studs for the dully wheels along with factory over load springs.
Is got a 351 W W/ a C6 auto Was striped down to a rolling chassis and sandblasted 3 times then 3 - 4 coats of chassis saver paint on the frame. New floor pans were welded in the cab, 3 coats of chassis saver paint on the floor inside and out, 351 W has a slight cam sticking with factory EFI so was not a big window open there.
I am itching to start putting the front clip back on but I'm holding off. Im still looking for a new / used Trans dip stick and tube for a C6 in a over 8500 GVW F250 or F350 as I have a after market one and its too short I think. I can see it being a pain to check or add trans fluid once all the body is on.
*** that's kind of a hint ... if someone has one kicking around I'll be more then happy to buy it off them and pay for shipping to Ohio ! ***
i went and looked at an f100 flareside the other night. the poor old guy was so old he couldnt remember the year. but its got a 300 straight six. and ill be at his house on the 15th of jan. with a new battery and my compressor. i will be the proud owner of one of my fav. tucks since my grandpa had one when i was a kid. it runs like a champ and its three on the floor. i'm excited as all get out.and i cant wait. when i get it ill post pictures. Is there any advice for a new owner of one of the best trucks ever built?
