Checking turbo

Whats the best way to go about checking a turbo to see if its wore out? I bought a factory kit and it seems good. No play in the shaft and the bearings feel good but I wanted to see what yall thought before I put it on.

Is it worth sending off or try doing it myself? The owner said the truck has 90k on it but you know how that goes. I just dont want to put it on and then find out there is a problem.

And by the way, I just got off the phone with ATS and they said they no longer have any parts for these turbos. I need o rings and an oil line so I'll have to go elsewhere.

Your the second person today to say that ATS no longer sells parts for the IDI. They apparently need to update their web site. http://www.atsdiesel.com/ats2/product/2023056/t

Yeah this is getting aggravating. I've tried ATS, Ford, Advance and Napa and have got nowhere.

The reason I got this truck was because it is all mechanical and I can work on it. But I cant do anything if I cant get parts.

If it gets any worse I'll sell it and go back to gas big blocks.

And the 093 turbo sytem O ring, gaskets and grommets are listed on the website, 45 dollars for all.

Ats redesigned the web site this spring.
It has been a total disaster since the redesign.

And it seems, no one at ATS gives a dam.

Like the rest of the companies, they don't care about the engine and people that made them what they are.
Power Strokes, Cummins and Duramax motors have more expensive parts, higher proffit margins and all that crap.
So forget the IDI and the people that drive them, they deserve nothing.

if the IDI was never made, there would be no ATS turbo, Power Stroke, Cummins or Duramax.

I hear ya Dave. Its like there is some conspiracy to make everybody give up their truck and buy a powerstroke or something else

Two times today I heard "too bad ya aint got a powerstroke, I can get anything you need for them".

My deal is I only use my truck for pulling my toys. Pulling 4 wheelers and tractors. If I made money with it I might could justify buying a new truck but I cant give 40-50k for a weekend toy hauler.

My response back to people like that is, "too bad you have a powerstroke, I can fix mine without a computer or going to a dealer and you can't."

NO, that is for the Power Stroke.

ATS IDI downpipe left, Stock Ford right, the ATS pipe will not fit a stock Ford turbo, the stock Ford pipe will not fit an ATS turbo.

The exhaust system in the picture at the down pipe link is an IDI system.

But their links are all screwed up, have been for a year now since the new website came online.

I have emailed them about problems several times, I did get an answer they were working on it, but no changes on the site.

If you go down and click enough of the Ford links, some even take you to Cummins or Duramax parts.

Sounds like they're following the same business plan GM [now Government Motors] used. Pathetic...

Way to many people are at jobs today only for the paycheck.
You can find these people in any business, doing any job, which they probably hate.

I have had guys work with me, on the way to work the first question they ask is either where are we eating lunch today or how long are we working cause I would like off early.
In my opinion if someone is asking either of those questions at 6 AM, work and the job quality is not high on their priority list.

At 6 AM, my mind is on the job, how to fix this or that, what I would like to get done that day or where I am getting parts for what we are doing that day and what can we do if I can't get something I need.

Yes I love my job, and I always try to complete it in the best and most efficent fashion for both us and the customer.
Some of our jobs can be a bit nasty, so I only want to do it once.
That means doing it the right way the first time, short cuts are not an option because they always come back and bite you.

I called ATS back today and got what I needed. I got the oring kit and the upgrade housing and downpipe.

Thanks Dave.

By the way, I think once they're out of housing and elbows they wont be making anymore. They had to look to see if they still had any.
