carb troubles, too rich
There are specific volumes per unit time unit published for particular engines, but usually you can use the rule of thumb that a steady solid stream means good fuel delivery while a power robbing restriction will be symptomized by a tiny dribble coming out.
First of all, the fuel pump seems to be working fine. I didn't do an accurate measure, but I'm seeing at least half a gallon come out in about 20 seconds, so the open-flow capacity is fine.
But there are a couple of strange things going on.
The fuel goes in clear, and comes out orange. Some of the stuff that spills onto the ground turns into varnish. What's more, after the container sits for a while, there is a fine sediment that collects on the bottom. Looking closer I realize the gas is actually cloudy. This stuff is so fine it passed through 2 filters. After decanting off the gas, the remaining mud dries into caked dirt. This was some of the crud I found clogging up the carburetor when I took it apart a couple times.
After running a while, the pump output starts sputtering, even though there is plenty of gas in the tank. So I think there is still a lot of crud in the tank, and I will have to pull it and scrub it and wash it out somehow.
