My hubby's got a 01 F250 Super Duty 4WD and his ABS light has come on a stays on at start-up, no probs with speedo that we're aware, there is some leakage on his truck that we beleive could be part of the problem. The truck is programmed with a HyperTech programmer and when I plugged it up to get a code reading the only code it read was a P1249, does that mean anything related to the ABS light? I've put a few pics below the oily/leaky side is the driver's side and the other is the passenger's side (the seal on the passenger side is loose and dried out) Let me know, thx!
This happened to me once when I landed in a ditch, one of my vaccum hoses was disconnected right above my front driverside wheel. But my wheel on that same side was not operating correctly during turns. So might not be same problem if that's not happening to you.
abs light shouldnt have anyhting to do with those seals wich look like they are in some serious disrepair, there prob is a wheel speed sensor bad some where most likly in one of the front bearings, i cant remember off hand if they are incorporated with the wheel bearings, i think so have that checked out.
your code is for a waste gate I'm guessing you have the 7.3
you need to get your seals fixed
the seals have nothing to do with abs you have two choices go to a shop and get your abs code and go from there or start replacing stuff until you get it right-if you go optiopn to start with the sensor in the rear first they tend to go bad first and your light usually won't go out til you drive the truck with the new part in
Most of the scanners will not read the abs codes unless they are specifically capable of them. Most need add ons to read abs system or are not capable, which is probably why you came up with none when you read them.
With those seals as bad as they are.....should they just be replaced or does that equal replacing the whole hub assembly??? And no, I prefer to start from scratch so we don't have to pay shop prices for that kind of info. My hubby had no choice but to b/c self-employed in 2008 and things are, well lets just say.....economically challenged!!
Those seals that are shown are only dust seals. Common for them to go bad and not the end of the world. I'd be more concerned with the top pic. By the looks of it I'd say the inner axle shaft seal is leaking diff fluid. I'd look at getting that fixed first. ABS light could be from the sensors in the front hub/bearing assemblies or even the rear ABS/Speed sensor. My ABS light was on and it was the rear sensor on top of the rear diff. My ABS light still comes on from time to time but only when its really cold and I've been plowing through a lot of snow.
