Personally I wouldn't worry about it at that temp, but it will give you warm air faster. The truck shouldn't mind those temps at all if your GPR and glow plugs are working correctly.

Mine starts fine w/o being plugged in down into the low teens. Low teens to 0, I start to have problems, below 0 for long enough to get the block that cold and you can forget about starting it without plugging it in.

You don't really ever have to use the block heater in Yuma. However you may choose to do it for a couple of reasons. I live in Mesa AZ and I use my heater during the winter months. The reason for this is because I use my truck most every day and I am tired of having to drive 10-15 miles before the heater works. Also, I believe warm, free flowing oil is better for my engine and possibly my injectors than cold thick oil.
I purchased a outdoor timer that can handle about 12-15 amps and a cord. I set the timer so it comes on about 1 1/2 hr before I leave for work. The heater is nice and toasty before I get out of my neighborhood.

I use a timer also, comes on around midnite and I leave around 5am, I only get luke warm air out of defrost first thing??? should it be warmer??? either way its warmer than not plugged in, and I also like having the oil warmed,also helps on fuel consumption. But truck will start with out it also,sat today 9hrs at 10-15* and started,didnt like it, but she started..low 40's at nite, I dont even look for the lead cord.
