i have an 86 f250 and about 2 years ago me and my dad rebuilt a 460 to drop in it. shortly after i got it done i had a small oil leak coming form the back of the motor. so i put i new rear main seal in and now its leaking worse then before. could it be the seal or the oil pan??
yeah, no kidding your must leak like mine. I knew about the tappet cover leak. First it was not terrible, but then it got really bad. Leaks down my starter, and touches the exhaust. Also, it leaks down the plate and all so it kinda looks like a rear main seal. Now I know the oil pan gasket or something went bad. Because it leaks when it sits too. Could be a bad oil pan on mine too. Good luck.
Could also be the oil pressure sensor or the back of the intake manifold.
It is hard to see back against the firewall.
Unless you degrease the entire engine it is hard to tell where any leak is coming from.
im sure we did install it right..this week im goin to look at in a lot closer cause my shop is full now so i cant get it in..or work outside in snow haha but ill keep an update on it. thanks for the help guys!
yeah, the only problem with a truck marking its territory is when it goes through 3 quarts or more a day. Sometimes 10 or more from going 30 miles or so that day. It gets costly, and you run at risk of going through engine damage if your oil gets low. Its not fun once an engine goes through more than a quart of oil a week. Do you guys know what I mean?
