Just got a 95 xlt f-350 cc rwd at 7.3 172000 mi. paid 5600, it has steel wheels and bone stock one owner. well kept and am putting a magnaflow xl on saturday, canceled the k-n, wanna do the cpr kit from dieseltech and some other healthy mods. any ideas? and where can I find the best selection of whatever for this short run truck, oh and, any aluminum 16"8 lug 6.5" wheels oout there? I need glow plugs to, I think,LOL
Don't ever use starting fluid of any kind in a powerstroke. Unless you want to be pulling the heads when you do the glowplugs.
Try letting them cycle longer when you start it. Watch the amp gauge. It will drop when you turn the kep on and it's cold out and stay down low for as long as they are energized. They actually energize much longer than the wait to start light makes you believe. When you see the gauge come back up then crank it. Sometimes it takes a good 60 seconds or so to warm up the cylinders.
starts great with a shot of ok for diesels starting fluid...
That is a huge no no for these trucks. It can crack a piston, break a ring, bend a rod, crack a head, etc. Don't do it. I hope nothing happened so far. Get the glow plug system working, or at least plug it in for 3 hours before you start it.
You shouldn't have to wait 'til the GPs cycle their full cycle. Yes, they DO cycle longer than the WTS light, but the WTS on-time is set by the PCM based on engine (oil) temp. If you have a good strong GPR and working glow plugs, and esp. if you plug the block heater in for 2-3 hrs before, and go by the WTS on-time, it should start like it's July even around zero F. There're aprx. 549874918753 (give or take) active threads ('tis the season) here and on the various other PSD forums regarding cold start issues, with info on testing the GPs and GPR.
Steelies on an XLT? Don't think I've ever seen that before.

the truck will start better if you wait for the WTS light goes off. give it an extra 10 seconds, thats what i do anyways.
see how it starts with the block heater plugged in for a bit.
and i think all xlt duallys came with steels. i think alum was a option if you wanted them.
if you just want a sharper look on the wheels, try looking for some wheel simulators.
hmm, thanks for the nono's. Powerful Diesels, in Altamote Fl, just put on my magnaflow, and changed the fuel filter. it was dirty, and the fuel pump is next. the relay is working, and it runs way better, no chugging or hesitating . thanks agin for the info.
ive got a spare set of alcoa 8 hole 16" rims that id like to get rid of. same look as the 8 hole XLT rims on these rigs. there not a miror polish like idlike but there clean.
