Back up lights not working

The backup lights on my 94 F-250 aren't working. I checked for power in the light sockets and there isn't any. As far as I can see the wiring and fuses are good. Were is the backup light switch, is it on the tranny?, its an E4OD. I tried looking in the repair manual, but it doesn't really help. Any help would be appreciated

The reverse light switch on both the slushboxes and manuals seem to be weak links in these trucks, just like the ignition lock cylinders. (At least the lock cylinder is a cinch to switch.) I hardwired a toggle in my '86 and replaced the switch on my '94, both sticks.

Before you get into the switchgear, though, I'd ensure you've got good wiring to the socket. If you're lucky, it might just be a bad ground. Do you have a trailer wiring harness? If that was installed shoddily, that could cause problems.

I went with a toggle switch in the '86 because the whole wiring harness had come undone right near the frame rail fuel pump and the wire was severed. They could have put these things together better.

It turns out it was probably the added trailer wiring. I had to redo a couple wires when i found the loose one. it was at the very back near the bumper and there were a lot of splices. I see what you are saying, the black with pink wire is super thin and pretty weak. they work now, but i will probably just have run a new wire eventually, it seems brittle.
thanks for the info.
