I've got a 91 F150, 351W, E4OD, 4x4. Totally stock. My wife drove my truck on Saturday to the store, her Explorer was blocked by a guest. We had some snow the night before so I went out and put it in four wheel drive for her. I also told her to move the transfer case shifter to 2wd when she got to the main road if it was dry. I don't know at this time if she did that. If she did, she went back to 4hi on the way home.
She called me this morning to inform me that her left rear on her Explorer was almost flat. I was just out to go get it and get it repaired and my transmission is stuck in Park. It won't budge. I pulled on it to the point I thought I might break the shifter. It is only +3 degrees this morning so maybe things are frozen although thats never been a problem before. This is the newest truck I have ever owned and my first E4OD so I am at a loss as to what the problem is. Any ideas? I appreciate any and all help here.
Ok, wife called me back quicker than I thought she would, lol. She never took the truck out of 4hi. She said she wasn't comfortable with being in 2wd on the roads. They were slushy or snowpacked the whole way she said. Ya'll think it might be in a bind?
Thanks for the quick advice gentlemen. I did try putting the TC in neutral befre posting here, didn't help. I did not check the brake light fuse, that would have been a waste of time. My truck does not have to have the brake pedal depressed to shift the tranny out of park.
It is fixed though. It must have been frozen by slush being splashed up on the linkage or something when my wife drove it. I let it idle about 15 minutes to see if that might melt any icy crap, it apparently did. When I went out, it slid into reverse as easy as it always has.
