First i would like to say how much you guys have helped me over the last couple of years. I am new to fords and have found bounds of info on this sight.here is my problem 1989 4.9 5 speed. had a bad engine, #5 rod was bent from fuel lock.one of the injector wires was grounded so 1,3and 5 were spraying fuel all the time. relay was bypassed. anway all of the problems have been repaired . New relays, rebuilt engine and still the same problem,#5 still misses. so today i changes all the injectors.still #5 misses.any ideas? thanks
I would go back to the basics on #5.Compression check,Spark, fuel. It's not getting one of them.It can't run without all 3,it could be anything from a bad new plug to a valve hanging open.Once you find out which one you don't have, then you can go from there,in the right direction.
If you have rebuilt the motor and it still does this, I would think it would be something that you re-used on the motor. Do like 300 buster recommended and start with the basics and eliminate one thing at a time. You could have a bad connection at the fuel injector.
I checked the comp. today it was good , nord light on the injector said it was firing. pulled the valve cover and ckecked the rockers, all was fine but # 5 cylinder is still missing.plugs are new wires are new cap and rotor are new.engine is brand new just rebuilt.and #5 still misses, any ideas?
Just exactly what was already said, start at square one and check everything." New means nothing," checked and passed means everything. I'm sorry if this sounds harsh, it's not meant that way at all. Best of luck, and let us know please. OBCB
When you checked the comp and pulled the plug out,was it wet?If it isn't hitting on #5the plug would be wet, if it isn't firing,if it's dry,no fuel,or its running. How do you know that it's #5 ? Did you pull the wire off?And as was said,"new" may mean nothing.
If the plug is not wet and that cylinder has comp, but is not running,it can't be getting fuel.Possible bad injector, plugged?Insufficient fuel pressure?May be electronically working, but not opening up?Good luck, hope you nail this one down.
It warmed up to get out and work on the truck today and found the problem. it was aq bad injector coil checked godd but it would not let any fuel go through. thanks for all your help guys.
