Rim Width

Currently I have 235/85 R16's on my truck not a bad tire but wouldn't mind a little wider tire. The rim is 16x7, the tire I was looking at is 265/75 16 recommended for a rim width of 7 to 8. Would it be better to get a wider rim, or would it be safe to run this tire on my 16x7 rims. I'm a little nervous about running a wider tire on my narrow rim. Thanks

In general, the rim width should not bee less than 80% of the tread width- 90% is considered perfect in most applications.

The 265 is nominally 10.43 inches.

Length conversion - online length converter - length conversions, height & distance, on-line metric conversions

I had 31-10.50 x 15s on 15x7 wheels and they were fine. If you off-road much, the narrower wheel is more protected with that combination.

On road, no issues.

Toyota for one, and many Toyota owners run 265s on 7s with no issues.

Mount 'em up and drive with pride....

Thanks I wasn't looking forward to buying new rims. I think the 265's made ride a skoosh better than the 235 snow plow tires.

You will be fine. I run 33x12.50's on a 7" wide rims. And have had no problems.
