v10 engine - diesel dash cluster
I've got a '99 f350 with a v10 (which is original per the VIN), but has a diesel dash cluster (at least the cluster is labeled "diesel fuel only"). Everything seems to run ok, but the tach reads low ... which suggests something needs to be "adjusted". Can this be done via a generic OBD / CAN controller, or am I stuck having a dealer reprogram it.

i am thinking that someone in the past changed the cluster, i am sure that you cannot change the calibration with a obd scanner. you might want to find a gas engine cluster to replace that diesel cluster.

Well someone has changed the Cluster for whatever reason. I would say that the only fix would be to get the correct cluster and put it in. The miles on the odometer most likely are not the correct mileage for the truck, so I don't know how you would go about correcting that

Interesting question. What are you using to determine the rpm's are low, and how low are they? I'm not sure a dealer would re-program this for you. They might just want to sell you a new cluster. Have you investigated the cost of just getting a gas instrument cluster? Maybe call one of the tuner companies and see if the can sell you a tuner that will correct your problem?
