not a ford ?????????
A friend of ours has a 90's Chevy 6.5L diesel with over 400k miles on it w/o any issues at all. He did have to rewire the entire truck though, but that was years ago.
Mine has 145,000 miles on it and is running good. I had to replace both heads a couple of years ago due to the radiator not flowing correctly and caused hot spots in the heads and they cracked.
The 6.5 with get you decent fuel mileage, 14-16 mpg on an average. One thing you need to find out is when the fuel pump was changed last, not if, but when it was changed. GM warranted for 11 years or 120,000 mile due to poor design of their electronic pump and driver that makes it work.
I changed the pmd (pump mounted driver) to a remote location off the fuel pump and have never had any more trouble. This is the kit I used

$2,000 sounds like a good price for what you are looking at. If you have any more questions, just let me know as I have owned mine for over 5 years and can steer you in the right direction as far as info.
As much as I would like an Excursion, the Suburban is paid for and has been slow for the last year, so I will keep it for now.
