Not sure about your suspension setup but I have a 78 camaro suspension under my 53 with a 351W and i purchased a set of hedman hedders shorties from Summit and will be installing them tomorrow. Looks like they will fit just fine. I looked at the sanderson block huggers and felt that with the collector facing straight down I wouldn't have enough clearance between the Camaro cross member and the end of the collector. Also be aware that the black paint on the Hedmans is not heat resistance paint. Its just a coating to keep them from rusting while on the shelf.
I have a 55 and just installed a speedway mustang2 cross member in it i am using a 351 w and a aod trans I bought a front cross member from mid fifty the tube type not the one that hangs on over the frame rails looks like it not going to work because the the motors mounts are lined up with center of the mustang crossmember so i have make some custom mounts But back to your question i ordered some block tite headers from speedwaymotors as i thought they would clear everything (i was guessing as i had a block core sitting in there) now that i have the f100 steering box removed and the mustang kit installed i see that the collector on the drivers side is right in the way for the steering shaft. I am looking at some bbk equal leight headers that come out at the rear and go down from there by the way my left head is about 1in from the firewall .
Or if all else fails, you could have a set custom made for your set up. It's usually pretty expensive. I spent $1700 on mine 3 year ago on my 51....I had to go over frame. But with such limited space, they're perfect!
Patriot 'clipster' headers work most of the time. It's nice to have the headers on hand when installing the motor mounts, as a 1/4 inch here or there can make the difference. some full length Mustang (65-70) headers will also fit, we like the 'Doug's'. We, No Limit, make a "trim-to-fit" motor mount kit that is pretty user friendly and fits with most IFS kits, only 59 bucks. Merry Christmas.
