I am thinking of converting my 86 f350 to 4x4. I know a solid 60 is the best way to go, but I want an easy bolt on. Someone posted that they did a total bolt on conversion and I cant find that thread. What year trucks had a coil spring 8 lug TTB? Will it bolt on to my 2wd frame? I have a welder and dont mind a little fab work but bolt on is prefered.
Look for an 80-97 LWB F250 4x4. They will have the heavier duty dana 50 ttb that you will want. It 'should' be pretty much bolt on, your crossmember should already have the mounting points for the ttb arms to bolt in to. (may have to get some brackets) You will also have to get the shackles, hangers, and brackets to attach leaf springs to your frame, and the springs themselves.
I was under the impression that a couple years had coils. I was trying to avoid leafs, just 'cause it's a lot more work. What about dana 44 housings from a 1/2 ton w/ coils and 44hd or 50 knuckles and axles?
i believe the dana 50 was only available in the extended cab f 250 and all f350 to 85.5 when they went to straight axles.i don't see why 150 ttb would not fit,but if i'm wrong someone will let me know.in your case i would go sas, with that plow and dump box might hold up better. IMO
I have been reading that even though your 2wd f350 has coil springs, that the holes may be in the frame for the leaf spring brackets for the 4x4 setup. Look under there and see if they are there.
