learn something new every day

Ok, I installed a pioneer cd player in my '70 last summer, nothing too fancy just a stereo and a pair of 3 way 6x9's. I couldn't help but notice that after the installation my battery would be a tad low after a couple of days and dead after a week of not running. It baffled me a bit but didn't worry too much cuz I had the same problem with my 73 dodge that had the same stereo set up. The other day is when it became a problem because it only sat for 2 days. When I went to start it up to go to work it was a no go. So I spent some time on the web trying to find anyone with the same problem but most people who had the same problem also were using big amps and subs that were draining their battery. I did figure out how to troubleshoot a drain on the battery, and figured it out.
Back when I was younger and they still sold tape decks with ***** the radio had 2 power wires 1 constant and 1 switched but you could wire it up so you didn't have to have your key in the ignition to listen to the radio.
I learned with these cd players you have to wire up the power wires where the switched is actually switched otherwise the radio is in "standby" mode and not completely off thus puts a drain on the battery. I hope my experience with this helps anyone who may have a similar problem.

I saw that coming while I read the first sentence. The same thing goes on with the tv in your home, it is not completely turned off. Pop the on switch and time how long it takes for it to be ready to watch, now unplug the tv for a few hours, plug it back in and turn it on quickly. See how much longer it will take to come on.
