have a question. I dont know much about these engines but have a built a LSX engine. I found a 460 block and heads on cragslist for what I say to be pretty cheap. All he knows is the block is from a 70's era van and has d3ve a2a heads. block has been hot tanked and magnafluxed. says it is all good. would this be a good platform for a light duty street pulling truck with 35's? Thanks for all the help guys <!-- / message --><!-- BEGIN TEMPLATE: ad_showthread_firstpost_sig --><!-- END TEMPLATE: ad_showthread_firstpost_sig -->
Yeah as long as you have a rear end that can handle what ever your towing it would be a great platform. I got my 460 out of a old RV so they are pretty stout engines. I even seen a huge dump truck the other day with a 460 that was pretty cool. And if 460 cubic inches aint enough you can stroke it out to like 550 CI. All you really need is some Good aftermarket heads and you could be running in the 600 HP range. They just did a show on the power block a little while ago on the 460 doing a mild to wild buildup.
I agree. You wouldn't have to have aluminum heads to have a great motor, though. It's basically how much money you want to put into the motor. A little bit of porting on the exhaust side of the heads and some headers would help out alot too.
