New to the forums. Been lurking for a while but, haven't really posted.
I have installed three toggle switches into my console. When I checked out the owners manual, I noticed there are four unused spots in the fuse block. I was thinking I could tap into those to get power to my switches and then run out to my relays.
Problem 1 - there isn't any power at the empty spots in the fuse block
Problem 2 - Can someone tell me the best way to get power wires through the fire wall? I can't seem to locate an accessible area of the firewall.
I used to own a Jeep and there was tons of firewall exposed for wires etc.
I have a 2006 f-150 with 5.4l Triton.

Look under the hood around the driver's side hinge area, and look under the dash around the driver's feet area or over near the kick panel. Most of the newer trucks have wires already run through the firewall, I think there is about 4 of them. You will find them taped up in the harness, and they are just cut off wires. You should find the same colored cut wires under the hood and under the dash. They are there to use for whatever you want.
I like to tap into the radio power wire for my switches. Easy to get to, don't have to run lots of extra wire and they turn off when the key is off so you don't accidently drain your batt.

That's a good spot for very small loads, and can be used for any size load up to approx 30amps if a relay is used.
Thanks for the replies. I was thinking of the radio but I will also install a switch I want power to even when the truck is off.
i will be using relays (we won't go into how I know to use relays, so I don't embarrass myself). I am going to look for the cut off wires that Franklin2 mentioned. They would be on the Drivers side? My fuse block is on the pass. side.
I did a little research on the wires, and it seems everybody who talks about them have f250's and 350's. Look around the master cylinder area and see if you can find them there. If not, the f150's may not have them.
Thanks Franklin2. I looked at every group of wires passing through the firewall today. I couldn't find even one that had been cut off. Lots of wires ending in unused connectors but, without knowing what they are for I couldn't just tap into any.
I ended up cutting a small incision at the edge of one of the existing grommets and passing the wire through there.
