I got a bit of a problem. When i cruise at 70 mph my speedo will jerk between 50 and 70 mph. I did the psom test it passed clean smooth sweep of the whole mph range. I am thinking it is vss. Tell me what you guys think. Thanks
Possibly, but the first thing to do is make sure the VSS is clean. It is a magnetic sensor and the end can get dirty, sending false signals. You may need to get a new one, but try cleaning it first.
would it be easier to just replace it i can get em at napa for 15 bucks.
Either way you have to remove the old one. Wiping it off is free, but if you are just dying to replace it then knock yourself out. But don't tell Napa you need a VSS, tell them you need a RABS or you will get the wrong part.

What is the PSOM test? How do you test the PSOM? What tools / equipment do I need?
I have this problem (and others) that I haven't been able to fix. My VSS is less than 6 months old. I'm thinking there's a gremlin in the wiring, but I haven't been able to find it.
When the truck is having issues, I press the 'Select' button on the instrument cluster. The OD light stops flashing, the speedometer and odometer start working again and the TC seems to fully engage / lock up. All is well...until the next time it happens. The only code being set is the P0500 Vehicle Speed Sensor malfunction.
I'm running out of ideas on what to check. Anyone have any ideas? Send a PM if you like.
The psom test it to make sure the psom it functioning correctly this is how you do it hold down reset button while turning key on not run but on the speedo will make a sweep from 0 to 85 then the calibration code will pop up on the odo. The point of me doing the psom test was to make sure that the needle made a nice smooth sweep i was looking for "breaks" in the sweep that could have told me the psom was bad. My vss was a bit dirty as well so i just repaced it for peace of mind also the old one cause the speedo to "flutter" 3 mph at 60 or above
