HELP- hub problem

hi 05 f250 sc sb 4x4 5.4l 25,000 miles.last i started to hear a whistling/whining noise coming from the front end while in motion. This morn when i went out to plow it still was making noise but went away after a couple of mins. Now something is running extremely hot in the front end .the wheels/hubs were so hot that water would boil off of it after only 20 miles of driving in 4x2 and 5 mins of easy plowing.i could smell a slight burning smell like brake pads.any one have any idea where i should start to look to see if i 1- have compromised hubs, 2- stuck front calipers, would have to be both cause both sides where eqully hotor 3- possibly problem inside front diff.4x4 works perfect ,no grinding or noise and i keep my rig pretty well maintained, though i have never greased the hubs. right now i run an 8ft western plow and 1000lbs of sand ballast in the bed.thanks joe

Check each rotor to see if that is the source of your high temperature problem. If the rotors are hot, the brake(s) are dragging. This is the most likely problem.

Hubs usually just fail to engage or disengage. This sounds like a stuck caliper.

Does sound like a stuck caliper, could be the slide pins which are easy enough to pull and clean up if that is the issue. It's possible it could be a bad caliper as well but being an 05 I would be surprised if it seized that soon but it's still possible.

stuck caliper is what it sounds like. In addition you may have warped your rotors if you got them to hot. Fix the calipers, grease the slide pins and then test the brakes, maybe you will be ok, otherwise new pads and rotors will be in order.

first i listed wrong year its an o6,not that it really matters.Second i just thought it would be a bit unordinary for both calipers to sieze up at the same time but i have seem some strange things happen.has anyone ever checked to see how hot your front hubs and wheels get after driving 20 or so miles and then plowing a couple of driveways?.. I am not discounting a brake issue because sometimes the rear caliper will stick on me after plowing only.I think im going to pull everything apart and put new pads on all around and grease the ***** out the caliper slides and see how that goes .I think part of the problem might be that my rig just sits there some times for days without being driven, hence only 25k miles in three + yrs. Thanks for the input
