Fuel Tank changing???

I want to know if the long bed 38G fuel tank will bolt right up to the short bed? I hate the small 29G tank but I don't want to buy one of those Titan tanks there way to much money. I can find a cheap fuel tank at a scrap yard but don't want to buy one until i know if they will fit??

I don't know the answer to your question.
I think a tank out of an Excursion will fit a short bed, but you have to remove the spare tire.
.
Just another idea.

I think that if it would that Ford would have had it as an option. The extra length of the 38G tank will come in the front of the tank before the front mounting strap. This would mean that extra forward clearance would be needed that the short bed wouldn't offer. Just my 2 cents.

I've wondered the same thing. I've got an Ex tank I was going to mount behind the axle. It can be done but you have to modify the x-member. Since I sold the truck, I'm no longer going to use it. There's been several that have done it, but it takes some work. It'd add 44 gallons of capacity. Let me know if you'd be interested.

are you talking about running duel tanks? that sounds like alot of work to run it from behind the axle? i take it need to lengthen the fill spout? fuel lines etc?? how much longer is the normal 38 G tank it looks like i have some room infront of my tank if it is just longer?
