carpet glue

carpet glue

i have just finished rebiulding my tranny and replacing my my clutch and i noticed the carpet under my seat was rotting so i riped it out and i am now dealing with geting off this glue that looks and feals like tar. any ideas on a way to get it off or atlest get it sofend up

Have you tried anything yet? I suspect it is something a PO used. Bill will know for sure but I doubt it was Ford installed.

Start at it with a putty knife. You might put a disc on a 4" grinder and hit it a lick too. If you are going to put in new carpet you might leave it.

A harsh solvent like Goof Off will definately remove it but you run the risk of also taking the factory paint off with it, but you may want to repaint anyways. ...To soften it up & not hurt the paint use Goo-Gone (the cirtis smelling stuff) takes longer to clean up but again, no damage to factory paint at all. ...you may also want to break out a hair dryer & get the area hot before you apply your solvent. That stuff shouldnt be too hard to clean-up...just a time killer!
