hi all, sat i am going too pull my starter is it a hard task?i have pulled them befour but not on this truck, when i looked under there i seen 2 bolts but there must be more that i can not see, any tipps would be great, thanks,1984 f250, diesel
There is a third one, you will need an extension that is the full length of the starter. Put the long extension and socket over the top with your rt hand, left hand goes up over the back and guides the socket to the bolt..... make sure power is disconnected first.
Also make sure both wires are disconnected on the top of the starter. The main power wire and the smaller selnoid wire that is held on with a 5/16 nut. I found out the hard way about the small wire when the starter almost dropped but the small wire held till I got the small socket on the nut. I think the larger nut was an 11/16 nut, I think it was. Either way the bolt behind the starter is a pain to get to. I've done 3 starters and all of them were done at home, Fortunetly.
well i got the starter out, i checked it and nothing i am taking it too napa and have them check it out, ? who has rebuilt a starter, depending the cost i might just bring it home and take it apart and clean it up , your thoughts, thanks for the help,
well i had napa checkout the starter no go, well i am going to take it apart clean it up , well see it did not spin over, so maby its the bendex, a lot cheaper $16.00 rather then $190 for a rebuilt starter,

It's not the bendex, that is the business end ( geared end) of the starter. If it does not spin, It's toast. It needs new brushes, the commutator cut and cleaned, and new bearings installed at both ends of the case. ( i.e. REBUILT)..
You can get rebuilt Gear reduction starters for $100 online.
