years ago i had one that was plummed into a heater hose, warmed and circulated the coolant, it worked well but cannot remember where i bought it, can also get the type that inserts into a freeze plug. my '94 has the freeze plug type right from the assembly line but i liked the aftermarket coolant heater better, seemed to work better, also easier to install. anyways i hooked them up to an outside electrical timer timed to go on about three hours before starting the truck.
now, not owning a diesel, i just get the highest cca battery and use a remote start. if i had a diesel i would probably want to preheat it as well, try googling block heaters and look for the type that circulates coolant, a very easy install
I think you want a block heater and it probably already has one, you just need to find the cord. In some cases the heater is there, but you need a different wire to plug into the block plug to run to your wall outlet.
