Hey guys , I've been reading and going through the search on shocks and not much said on boat towing. my question is I tow a boat approx. 6K ( I tow only 1-2 times a month, under 20 mls Highway as well as local rds.) and my Expy is ready for new shocks, they are the stock org. I never go off road and hardly ever use my 4 wd system, I got the 4x4 just incase I need it at the ramp. Well, is there a shock that gives a nice comfortable ride while not towing and a solid ride when towing. My Expy is a completely stock 2000 E.B. 4x4 Automatic, 5.4, non air system w/ a set set of Bridgestone Dueler Revo's, stock size. Thanks
I have the same vehcile specs as you and I tow a pop up and was going to upgrade the rear shocks just to get rid of the slight squat I got with a fully loaded cargo bed and the weight of the pop up. I am going with the Monroe Sensatrac Load Leveling shocks. Good for everyday driving and towing. You can get the rears for under $120 for the pair. Not doing the front but I would not put these in the front. Another model of Monroe Sensatracs would be fine those.
Another possibility is to put air bags inside the rear springs and get the weight carrying back to over the rear axle. The air bags can be adjusted depending on the load you have. Then just a good pair of shocks to take the bounce out.

I thought of the air bags as well but felt it would be a pain to add air when towing, release air when not. These shocks are rated to handle an additional 1200 lbs over stock shocks and don't require the constant air in/air out. They are a coil over shock so should be good for all around use. $110 for these shocks vs. $100+ for air bags and then another $60 for a new pair of rear shocks also leads me to the Monore Load Leveling.
