Starter support bracket to oil pan. I've tried the ones from DC & Mac's and neither fit. They say they fit all six cyl. engines but they do not say they don't fit the 254 engine. Of course, when I got the truck the engine was not running and the starter was hanging by one bolt. If they are really important I guess I'll have to fab one.

make one. I would not go without. on the 8BA the starters are heavy and i dont want all that weight hanging off a couple 1/4" bolts that are 6" long.

Yep, very necessary. Starter hangups may result without it.

I don't know how well the starter works without the bracket, but I've always had one and never had a starter problem.

Hey, cool new emoticon. How long has this been here?

The parts book show that they all use the same one. 1A 11140 A which is NOT the same number that Mac's and DC show in their catalog. Mine has two holes on one side??
Rear Counter shows that DC new old stock has 5. You might call them and see if it's different from the one on the website. (800) 476-9653

It goes under the head of one of the starter thru-bolts and the other hole connects at an oil pan bolt.

This is how mine looks in my 226... not really like that one. Sorry they're not more visible, but they're the only pics I have showing the bracket.

Yes, as I recall, that side of the bracket has a hole and an elongated or slotted hole. I thought I took more pics of it on disassembly, because I wanted to be able to reassemble it correctly. But I can't find them...
