Well my radiator started leaking last week on my 93' F250 7.3l turbo. This was the OEM radiator so it made it almost 17 years. I change my antifreeze about 3 times during that period.
I think 17 years and 260,000 km on the OEM radiator is pretty darn good.
I got a new radiator Lordco brought in for me. Dad has bought one before from them for his 92 F250
I doubt the unit is as good as the OEM one but if I get 10 years out it I will be happy.
The old one failed at the seam near the bottom can. It is funny I was using the block heater the last two weeks and can't help but wonder whether that finished the old radiator off. Maybe some stray current.
There sure are a lot of electrical currents running this motor as I change my coolant filter once a year and the zinc is always completely gone when I change it. Probably left the last filter change for too long and it started eating away on my radiator.
i was pricing both and then went to ford when i found out i could get the OEM size and style for 400 dollars less but aluminum core and he said it would be fine. The new super dutys run aluminum core plastic tank ones. I am lookign to replace soon and didnt know if there was a better answer than what the ford guy said. These IDI's wont get hotter than a super duty turbo so if they can handle it, i am sure the older ones can too.
