JASFAA, you sure open the door--WIDE! See my avitar. V-10, 6.0's, and now a 6.4, and all are around 10 mpg.

CAT engines don't have emission controls. CAT quit making domestic over the road engines. If CAT could make an engine to be 2010 complaint would they quit manufacturing this type engine?

NOTE that rum4 says he has DRW F - 350. He probably has a better rear ratio than I have, 4.10 which kills my mpg, but still, he is telling the way it is, not the way of an antiquated 7.3 engine.

I think He misunderstood the comment about these" trucks not being made for mileage" ,, OP wasn't referring to past Diesel's in general ,, just the current light truck line up

I agree, plus as a gasser he should stay in his forum. Just kidding RMOSSO. I wasn't responding to you. Diesels have had it great versus the v10 for years. I have owned several of those as well. We have Semi's that have the emissions on them right now and yes, mileage went down to 5. Again, pulling 100,000 lbs vs 8000 lbs. You have to admit pretty bad.

I can't stand it anymore.

I will miss the 6.4 unless the 6.7 is really good. 116,500 on my odo pulling trailers everywhere. I actually bent the weight distribution hitch (HUSKY) 'cause the thing pulls so hard. Now I have a Reese.

You guys with bad experiences, sorry. It's the best thing out there right now.

i think the 6.4 is awesome. Smooth and very powerful. MPG not bad to me either. I went from a 5.4 gasser and my friend has a 2000 chevy with the 5.3. Neither of us got over 15 or 16 on the highway and they can't tow crap. Now i get 17 plus on the hwy and can tow a house if i like. Not sure why everyones complaining. Oh by the way, the 1/2 tons weight around 4500 empty, but i just hit a Black Cat scale in my F250 and weighed in at 8260lbs with me and 1/2 tank of gas.

On a seperate note i'm not that good in math but it seems to me that a truck that gets better fuel mileage, can tow near 3 times the load and weighs near twice as much is a pretty damn good truck so quit your bitching already.

Wow, they have gained some weight I guess. My F-250 is only a 4 X 2 but it weighed in at 7,000 even with a full tank of fuel. That was at a commercial recycling yard where they are paying for scrap. Weights & Measure guys there on a routine basis.

6.4

I predict that we will lament the passing of the 6.4 much like we did the 7.3. I hope the 6.7 Mexi-Motor can preform at least as good as my proven 6.4 does after all the hype dies down. I see ford caved in and went with the aluminum heads like GM did. I have no burning desire to own one

I have no desire to own one at this point either. Lets hope Ford is successful with the new design and it turns out to be great. However, new aluminum heads, new emission technologies and equipment, new graphite block and other firsts means many possibilties for unexpected issues (despite the debatable Mexico assembly which many see as the highest risk issue). If you are buying first year production of this rig you are a bigger risk taker than the average guy for sure.

The 6.4 has a compacted graphite iron block as well. It's just made by different people and a different factory than the new 6.7 will be...
