Zmann, the system is the same! That quote above came directly from the chief engineer of the team that designed the '11 SDs.

The SCR aftertreatment system and DPF are two separate systems!

On edit: Good info on your edit. Kind of makes this post meaningless....

I normally don't buy 1st year drive trains so I will wait till the jury is in. It's a global market anymore and if the jury says the quality is there and I can see benefits over my 6.0, which has been great, then I will consider buying one. If you are waiting for new technology that is 100% U.S. you may be going back to a Pinto pretty soon and even that was not 100% U.S. made. The V6 was german.

I do think that with this combo the regen's required will be scaled back slightly, reason being is the reduction of the % of EGR.

Possibly, but at what cost? I paid $6895 for my PSD option. I doubt I'd see $2500 worth of fuel savings over the life of the truck with slightly increased regen frequency.

It isn't all about fuel savings. It is also about pulling power when you have 7 miles of 8% grade and 15,000 lbs. of trailer behind you.

Oh, no sell out/ bailout crap either........Henry Ford started revolutionizing automobiles at the turn of the 1900's, revolutionized farming, and has the biggest, best trucks on the market; Ford 6.4L for life (plus they are getting too damn expensive!).
I agree with this one. I love both of my trucks and plan to keep them forever.

I believe there is a Kawasaki engine in my John Deere tractor. In my Bobcat there is a Kubota diesel. A south Korean outfit bot out Bobcat a couple years back.

Years ago, I went to listen to a speach by a W PA Congressman. His point was that soon we will not be able to buy an America made Baseball glove.

We all better face facts, home made apple pie and Coca Cola from Atlanta are just a couple expamples of what remains.

My point, tough to differentiate between Mexico, Taiwan, China, Viet Nam, Korea, et cetera!

Honestly I didn't mind some Auto's comming from canada ETC but if my choice is a ford with a mexico motor or a chevy with a canadian motor ,, this will be my last Superduty ,, I have seen the issues with quality in Mexican assembly plants and I just have no interest in them ,,

To take this back to the thread topic, I will be happy to keep my 6.4 because the new motor will probably have an issue and you have to now buy fluid for the new emissions junk. Oh well.

jasfaa:

I feel the OP was being answered as in the many posts. Answering the question WHY was the OP's apparent question. This was the last line of the OP:

Will any of you miss the 6.4? Or does it depend upon the success or failure of the new Ford-built motor?

If you read all the comments, some say NO, because of site of the manufacturing COUNTRY

I am curious to see what kind of mileage the new in house motor will deliver. Hearing from different owners it seems there is a downhill pattern which began after the 1999 to 2003 7.3 motor. As more emissions equipment have been loaded on the motors starting with the 6.0, mileage has taken a steady downhill path even though emissions have improved. It has been stated that a DPF system with other emissions equipment accounts for an approx 7 MPG reduction average. That is huge and more emissions will likely make it worse. I have sustained a 19.4 mixed city/HWY average with a basically stock 7.3 2000 F-350 w/manual 6 speed trans. Only change over stock is an Edge Evo programmer run in tow mode and EBPV delete. Don't see any of the emissions weighted newer trucks getting that.

Diesel engines are going thru the same learning curve the gassers did in the 70's and 80's. It will get better, just a matter of time and technology.

Or will they just always be subject to catch up with the EPA and forced to change drastically every few years??
