electrical nightmare

electrical nightmare

Just purchased 2000 f250sd cc 4x4 .trany was out, so I changed that an every thing going fine till I went to use 4x4. would not engauge.So while testing switchs relays actuater ect. the power windows quit working, an the wipers quit.sowhile working on widows I hit the door locks an wipers would work while holding door lock, also 4x4 would actuate while holding down door lock,windows don't do anything. Is this the gem or a bad ground or what. PULLING HAIR

That much stuff apparently shorted together would lead me to think you have some water intrusion under the dash. I would pull as much stuff off the dash as necessary to inspect around all the components, including feeling around for moisture, including pulling the under dash fuse block.

A bad GEM or VSM is possible of course, but this one would be really acting weird. Of course, it could be water damaged too.

No water I can see ,windshield is cracked , prev owner said only electrical prob was light on overdrive button blinks off an on but still works wright

Cracked windshield supports my theory. You won't be able to see water, you might not even have wet carpet. You have to get up in there and search for the evidence. Like wet insulation, rust, green corrosion. Even if it is dry now, you are looking for evidence that it was wet at some time in history. Like Mars.

When a switch controls something other than what they are ment for, that is a good sign you have a very important ground wire loose.

You see this same effect all the time when somebody hits their brakes and every light, but the brake light, comes on.

Since there is no direct path to ground, the voltage will find the next best thing. Which is another system.

Thought I'd let you all know that it was a bad GEM module.not letting it ground, thanks for the help.
