Hey guys, My grandad has a 2009 F250 powerstroke. We are going to get him a programmer/chip for his truck for Christmas and was wondering what one to get. I've been looking at the PPE, but whats the best options out right now?
I've got an 03 7.3 stroke and a DP tuner - love that thing. Thanks for all the help in advance.
Spartan will be the most Hp and allow the off-road option to remove the DPF.
Other option would be what I have, banks, all emissions stuff remains in place. All Factory safe limits remain. Less HP and TQ numbers but much better than stock.
those two are gonna be about the best to my knowledge.
hey senix what kind of hp do you get out of your banks and what is the name of it for the 6.4
Banks 6-gun is the one they have configured for the 6.4.
From the website:
Calibrated for sport applications, Six-Gun delivers pavement-shredding power with CleanTune™ technology, which out-performs dirty, smoky tunes; has change-on-the-fly power levels; is Stacked for Power® to tune pulse width, timing and fuel pressure; and has exclusive AutoRate® and ActiveSafety® engine and transmission safeguards. Six-Gun will rocket you from 0-60 mph 12% quicker.
Six-Gun delivers best gains of +95 hp and +180 lb-ft. All gains measured at the rear wheels, with recommended airflow
thansk senix, Q: is the banks IQ just for if yiu want a dpf delete? as for the 6 gun have you had any trouble with your dealer concerning warranty with this unit?
The Banks IQ is in limited release, you would need the 6-gun to use it it. They are suppose to come out shortly with the IQ as a stand alone that will plug into the OBI port. Banks does not delete the DPF at all. They are working with CARB in Calif to even get the system certified as emissions compliant.
Don't think that process is very far along though.
As to my servicing dealer I have not had any issues, but then again I have not needed the motor worked on either. I have had the truck in for my passenger window and the blend door noise and told him it was on there so don't reflash me and he just said, no problem.
I had Innovative tunes on my 6.0 and could not have been happier with them. When I got my 6.4 I was not even going to consider anything else - then I started reading and found that Spartan was ahead of the pack with their development. I was going to go with their stuff and a DPF delete (with the 210 being the highest level so that safety parameters could be monitored to prevent damage). However, I am hearing of a few guys having problems with the tuner itself (not the tunes, they continue to garner praises) and slow customer service. This may be a growing pain associated with their popularity. On another site, H&S tunes are gaining ground and I have read of Innovative being almost there too. I will do another month or so of research, keep dealing with some warranty concerns I am having, then tune and delete.
the only tune that is giving anyone any problems is a new 210 tow performance tune that they just released and apparently it is only giving problems to Job 1 trucks. They are working on the fix now for that and it will probably be out in a week or so. The only issues with the tuner itself are for those that bought the first couple thousand tuners. Spartan upgraded the older tuners to their new software and some people had issues with the upgrade. Spartan service has always been great for me and their tunes are awesome.
I have read that Innovative/SCT is working through some tranny shifting issues on their highest level tunes. I think River City Diesel is doing custom tunes on the SCT as well with good results.
H&S is getting lots of praise now. Had an early problem with not releasing WOT as soon as you lifted but that is corrected now. The advantage is that its shift on the fly.
Spartan gets lots of praise but they are the most expensive. There have been growing pains since they were first to mass market DPF delete tunes so early users have had lots of downloads and upgrades. They are a small shop so you probably get better customer service from buying through one of their distributors. They now offer "one size fits all" tuners instead of being VIN specific and you can get all tunes up to 250 at the entry level purchase.
Senix is the best resource for the Banks kit and since he already replied I wont elaborate any further.
There are a few others such as Edge but I have heard more negative than positive so my personal opinion would be not to deviate from the above list.
