I looked at a 2001 X XLT today, it had 147k on it new tires body is straight and had a few scratches on her but she ran awsome. The asking price is 6500 which for a 4x4 that runs thats good i think is more than fair.

The only issue i have with it is on the bottom of the guage cluster there is a red circle lit up and i dont know what it means... The truck ran handled and braked well so i dont think its anything serious.

Can someone tell me what that red light means? And whats everyones opinion on the truck?

I had a 00 X and i dont ever remember it having that much power, at 45mph it went into OD and was sitting at 1500rpm so i am guessing its got 3.73 gearing??

Correct!

The V10 has often been described as "a poor man's diesel" and "Ford's best kept secret" and it truly is. Whether you're moving people around town, on a roadtrip, or pulling a good size trailer, you will not be disappointed with a V10powered Excursion. I know, I've had one...

Before I bought my diesel Ex new in 2001, I was given a '00 V10 to drive for the weekend and MAN was it nice. It was powerful, had plenty of room for whatever I needed, and got decent mileage for something it's size. If I had my way, I'd have both in my driveway...someday I suppose....

With the Excursion you have WAY more options...

How it rides: If the springs are too soft for you, a set of F250 springs can easily remedy that.

Power while towing: If you plan on regularly towing 4.30 gears turn the V10 into a tow beast from hell. Better acceleration, more power in the higher rpms, and you can more easily pull up a good size hill without downshifting.

I thought about a 6.0 Suburban, but liked the Excursion better because it was something different and is as far as I'm concerned, superior.

If you live out in south Texas, I'll gladly come take a look at it for you and help you with any needed repairs, free of charge...
