I had never heard anybody say this, but it makes perfect sense. You could still be wrong, of course, but this is a PERFECT description of the way that certain "truths" get established without a shred of evidence or proof. Spoken like a true skeptic!

X2, the cure isn't to fix cackle, that is only an audible by-product of what's happening to your injectors.

hey guys thanks for all your help. really made me feel at home lol. i was in cookeville at college for the week so i searched for a garage up here. after taking the truck to walkers diesel and a few minutes of looking it over we found out it was the water pump. the bearing was shot and was causing the pulley to smack back and forth (which was giving me the knocking noise) so 350 dollars later she is back up and running. but thanks for all of your help it really helped me rule out other problems

Good deal Kyle, glad ya got it fixed!!!

I would have had some suggestions about coolants, etc. - but hopefully your shop hooked you up! If you are using 'green' coolant, ya need to learn how to monitor SCA's (supplemental coolant additives are required for diesels when using some coolants). Actually, you can practically get a Phd in coolant technology, so at least understand whats important about the coolant YOU are using. FWIW, no matter what the label says - 'Universal' coolants are not for 'any engine'...

Whats wrong with a little air in the fuel? It does make injectors a little noisier, but it would take ALOT to harm one. I'm all about the in-tank and pre-pump mods to eliminate potential air leaks - but spending money to put (very vulnerable!) rubber hose on the engine seems like a bad idea. PSD fuel pumps don't seem to like pre-pump filters either (again, whats the point?). Not trying to go against the grain here, just sharing my opinions based on fooling around with my PSD's for about 250k miles now....

Love my DP-Tuner tunes in both PSD's!! I just wish he had the 'drive-thru' (makes engine quiet enough to order fast food), decel tunes (activates EBPV and locks torque conv. for 'free' exhaust brake), etc when I got tunes last time...

I just deleted the muffler (straight pipe) on my stock exhaust - something like 175k miles ago. I used a piece of stock (SS) exhaust in place of muffler. I really like the way it sounds. Almost no difference in cab with windows up - but it'll talk to ya hitting 25+psi of boost pulling a grade, etc if ya let the windows down! I doubt there is much measurable difference in performance in going to 4" - just sounds different and MAYBE a few degrees lower EGT's. Of course a nice 4" system and a pretty tip will surely attract more beautiful women!!!

Clay will hook you up! Thats a great deal and you won't be dissapointed!

Since you alreayd have a TS chip, talk to Tony Wildman. http://www.totaldieselperformance.com/
He can reburn your chip and save you a few bucks. There are a few of us "outsiders" around here that run Tony's tunes, and we wouldn't have it any other way!

Also, a full 4" exhaust is about the standard. You can go 5"; it will only give you a different sound, but then be a little harder to install.

I don't think you mentioned it yet, or I overlooked it, do you have any gauges??? They are a must when it comes to chips and tuning. More horsepower = more heat, and too much of that is bad!! With a 6spd you should only need pyro and boost. Those of us with auto's do tranny tempsas well. Talk to Clay, he'll get you set up properly!

And welcome to FTE!

i checked out the tony wildman tune and its definately more in my price range. the only tune i couldn't find from him that i was wanting from dp is the lope tune. the only thing that bothers me is ive never heard much about the tony wildman tunes. i've heard they work extremely well but ive never heard anything about the reliability of them. people seem to worship the dp tuners and the people i know who have them wouldnt have anything else. personally i dont care which one i get i just want more power without sacrificing my reliability.

I run a TS chip and love it ive got gobbs of power and its just as reliable as the dp tuner, in my opinion their the same thing just a diferent brand name. If your in the 75 horse and you cant feel it their is definetly something wrong.

TW, DP, PHP are all great tuners, you can't go wrong with any one of them. Reliability on these is better than what you could get off the shelf, and you can actually call and talk to the guy doing the tuning. They don't just add fuel; they'll adjust shift points, shift firmness, how and when the injectors inject the fuel, and many more parameters that I don't even know about. That's what makes these guys better than off the shelf programmers.

I recommend Tony, 1- because I had a TS chip and he reburned it. 2- He's a great guy, just visited with him a week ago. Talked about reburning my chip now that I've made some big changes. Then I get some great advice about how to get our newborn boy to sleep at night. You won't get that from Superchips! 3- His reburns are free! If you make updates or changes to your truck, you can send your chip to him and he can make changes to the tuning and get it back to you free of charge.
