Question on e4od

My 92 f150 4x4 started leaking badly while driving down the road, I replaced the front seal and it leaks worse than ever,I think I was sold the wrong seal cause it didn't look like the one that came out of it, but anyways I was told the front pump bushing might have spun on it, my question is ,,,is there a way of telling if the bushing has spun by looking at it or do you think maybe it is just a matter of putting in the right seal. the one that I took out of it has the outside lip on it and the one I stuck in it does not, the auto parts that sold me the same identical seal that came out of it couldn't get the two to cross reference. does the bushing go bad? somebody please help, as I am having to pull this tranny and tranfer case myself and do not want to have to keep having to pull it out and putting it in. I looked at the tc and didn't see any cracks, when I took the pan off ,I found a long bolt that came out that goes to the shift solenoid, but I don't know if that missing bolt would cause it to leak(from the tc inspection hole). any help is greatly appreciated. 92 f150 4x4 e4od 5.8

This is where the bushing in the pump should be, sometimes this bushing can move forward and touch the back of the seal causing it to leak.

If it has moved to the seal you will have to remove the pump and replace the bushing.

The seal may or may not have the outer lip on the seal, they are made both ways. When you replace the seal, first put the seal on the converter hub to see if it is tight on the hub. When I install a metal clad seals I like to use red loctite on it to help seal the seal to the pump.
