autometer pyrometer blowuing fuses?

my truck came with an autometer pyromteter installed. the previous owner just had the power wire for it wrapped around a fuse and jammed in there. i cant live with this.
I've tried to power it with an "add a circuit" but it keeps blowing fuses i think i even went upto a 20amp maybe evern tried a 30.
how do you guys hook up the main power ( not lighting) to the pyrometer.
maybe i got a short or a bad gauge, but i'd figure id check with you guys, i ve installed hundreds of gauges but never a pyro, and i havent seen anything special about it in the autometer instructions

I just have mine hooked up to a fuse tap. It has worked just fine. Hopefully someone else will chime in with some alternative options for you.

I found a key-on hot wire and hooked it right up. Sounds like you got a short somewhere.
