Cold weather elevated idle feature

I have a 2004 6.0L Excursion Can anyone tell we where to start looking? My cruise control as well as my elevated idle in cold weather has stopped working. I have checked all the obvious items, fuses etc allready.

Cold weather "high-idle" is built into your computer programming and only works when certain parameters are met by your truck's system.

The tempertaure of the coolant must be "X degrees", your foot off the brake pedal and truck in Park. Touch the brake, and the idle goes back down.

There is no fuse for the "high-idle" feature... it's all in the PCM programming.

I would diconnect and get rid of the edge. They are known to cause tranny problems.

I have not had any trouble with the edge as of yet but i know better than to run it any higher than level three. I need to do head studs, that much i do know but i don't beat on the truck. I get the hammer down every once in a while but i know this engine and trans will self destruct if i get too greedy. Any advice on what tuner is more appropriate for the 6.0L?

Sct with custom tunes or the spartan tunner. The problem with the edge is it dosent do anything to programe the tcm for the added power. Most people end up trashing there tranny because of this.

those sure are some nice looking switches. Looks like christmas came early. Actually i am aware of the pto upperfitter mod. That is on my list of things to do but i would also like to get the factory setup working again also. I have a remote start and the auto idle up is an integral part of the winter warm up. With out this my truck can idle all afternoon and still not be up to tempurature

most likely the PCM isn't seeing the necessary parameters to initiate elevated idle(about 1000 rpm)..

switched high idle mod(SEIC) is a lot different when it comes to X's..

How's this for ironic...I've got my parts for the high idle mod. But I have to wait for this cold snap to let up before I can do it. -40 tonght, they're sying -46 with the wind chill. I hate winter.

Duh... there is your problem... your running an aftermarket tuner which over-writes the Ford programming!!!! There is no way you will get the benefit of the Ford "high idle" feature if your not running the Ford programming.

That's interesting, but it has worked fine for a few years with the edge programmer hooked up.

i just saw the cruise control part.. have you checked your brake switch on your master cylinder? it's at the forward end pointing towards the oil pan.. it is in the same harness as the filter minder.. it may be loose or disconnected..

Not true. I have the SCTX3 and my high idle works just fine.
I even have an aftermarket remote start. Never had a problem.

I would guess that the problem is your Brake Pedal Position switch. This is the one where the brake pedal arm meets the master cylinder rod. It is a two part switch, basically two switches in one case. One switch activates your brake lights, the other switch sends a signal to the PCM indicating you are pressing on the brake. If the PCM thinks you are pressing on the brake, your cruise won't work, nor will your elevated idle.

It's about a $30 part.
