alright so i am looking into a first truck and have considered a ton of trucks from the little ranger to a chevy 2500hd. i found a really nice 2003 ford 250 with a 5.4 v8 and a 103k miles. its a 4x4 5speed single cab. its lifted 6.5 inches on 35'' tires and im in love with it. the guy wants 7grand obo and im really thinking of offering like 6 because it looks like a great truck.
now i have a few questions though before i jump into it. i know trucks especially with lifts and big tires get less mpg but im curious what kinda mileage this would get. i think it would get around 14 but my dad is argueing 8 lol
i do have a slightly more agressive driving stile but if i cant aford that driving style it can always change lol so advice and oppinions please
I'll give my example. In the city I get 8-10 and my current commute of 20 miles highway and 5 miles city, I'm averaging high 11s. That is 5.4L, 4" lift, 35" tires, 4.56 gears and auto trans with a lot of other mods driving conservatively. 14 is really high for mixed, but probably not far off on the interstate as I once saw a 19mpg using gallons to fill and miles traveled.
6.5" sounds like a lot of lift for 35" tires, you can get by with a 2" leveling kit and 35s, if I had aftermarket tires, my 35" toyos would be perfect under 4"s. Good luck though and come back often if you get it, or even if you don't.
thanks for the help guys, i figured itd be alittle higher and i completly agree that 6.5 inch of lift is alil high for 35s but it looks really good and id probly up them to 37's. iv always been a sucker for big lifted trucks and what not. this just sounds like a pretty good first truck and i know the f-series really go forever. especially if taken care of. and theres always dropping a diesel in it in a few years =P
and ill deff be hanging out around here now that i found this site i belonged to a all rangers site a few months ago and learned a TON so i figure if i hang out here ill learn plenty about the beasts i love so much
To be safe, 10 MPG is probably a good figure to start with. It is real hard to guess, especially with a big lift and wide tires. Your aggressive driving style won't help much either, so maybe your Dad is smarter than you think?
pfft no way i can admit nothing! lol nah id never argue with my dad about cars hes one smart dude especially when it comes to cars and trucks, he just doesnt want me to have one cause hes afraid of what ill do in it.
and yeah i mean i think agressive might have been a bad word choice. i think its more like i wanna get there in the least amount of time hahah
