low oil pressure problem?

low oil pressure problem?

Well after driving around yesterday for about 5 hours i got home a looked at my oil pressure gauge and its about 1/4 of the way into normal and stays that way even when driving. 3 days ago it was reading perfect and all of a sudden it dropped down. The oil was changed about 800 miles ago could this be a problem from when i got in a accident (girl t-boned me going 50-55mph)? should this be something i should worry about?

The factory gauges are notoriously inaccurate. Basically and on/off switch
I put in a T and added an aftermarket gauge from Autozone-use the copper line kit and not the plastic one.

You need 10psi per 1000 rpms

lol yea the factory guages all suck.... i like the copper lines too better than the nylon ones they wont get a hole melted in them if it touches somthing it shouldnt and easyer to work with. as far at putting a T on there to each is own i guess but i would just say to h*ll with the oem guage....

Also with a lot of miles, you can see a drop in oil pressure at low RPM, this due to oil slipping through the worn Bearing faces. Wont hurt anything cause theres still oil there though.

My truck will be at normal oil pressure at 800 rpm but when it goes to 600 rpm the gauge falls off to no pressure. ( the factory one that is) 210,000 miles on the 5.8l if its orginal.

yea low oil pressure is never a good thing.... but with 210000 miles lol i guess u could expect normal ware

Well pressure is low, that doesnt mean flow is low though. The bearings are still getting oiled and its only at idle, so not going to be getting to hot there. It could be the sending unit, but its so consistant with low RPM that i think its gotta be it.
